How to do a Breast Self-Exam

1. Stand in front of the mirror

  • With shoulders straight and arms on waist, observe your breast in the mirror for any signs of fluid flowing from nipples or change in shape size or color.
  • Repeat same with arm raised.

2. Lay on your back

  • With a pillow under your right shoulder, place arm behind your head. Use the 3 middle fingers of your left hand and press firmly on your entire breast from top to bottom (collarbone to top of abdomen) and side to side (armpit to cleavage)
  • Repeat same on left breast
  • Use one of the three patterns shown on the left (up & down, circle or wedge)

3. While in the shower

  • With your right hand behind your head, use your 3 middle fingers on your left hand and press firmly on your entire breast from top to bottom (collarbone to top of abdomen) and side to side (armpit to cleavage).
  • Repeat same on left breast.
  • Use one of the patterns shown above (up & down, circle or wedge).
